Innovation Description
Mrs. Jamunaben Patel is a 45 years old widow from Nawaphadiya, has a son and two daughters, all of whom are married and settled. After her husband’s death, to avoid loneliness she has been alternatively residing with her children one by one. Presently she is residing with one of her daughter in Golwad village in Chikli. They have hardly around one acre of land.While she was quite young, Jamunaben developed keen interest in herbal poultry products as her family had been traditionally treating various poultry ailments. She learnt and grasped the medications, specific plants and the ways to diagnose these ailments in poultry. After marriage, she received a lot of support and encouragement from her husband. She used to treat various poultry ailments while she was residing at Ghej with her husband and their family. A special mention can be made of one of her practice to cure poultry birds affected with profuse white diarrhea and inappetite with a local plant Amarvel. Such was the efficacy of her preparations that she is still very popular in her original village and the people remember the way her medications worked in birds.Her practice has been taken up by the College of Veterinary Science, Mumbai for validation and the results are expected soon. Presently she has stopped practicing though she has expressed her desire to develop the medications upon giving an opportunity.
