Background
If one lives in a high-rise building or in a big house, fetching a letter from letterbox itself is a tedious task, which becomes even more frustrating when one finds no letter in the box, only after coming all the way down. Utkalika Patnaik (16 years) has designed a letterbox with an indicator that lights up when a letter is in the box. Utkalika is studying in first year science at intermediate level. She has been a good student and secured 81% marks in her higher secondary examinations last year. She gains inspiration from her father Dibakar Patnaik, mother Satyabhama Pattnaik (housewife) and from her teacher. Her science teacher guided her projects.She also has a keen interest in music and is a trained classical singer. She wants to become a cardiologist so that she could develop innovations related to human heart and help solving problems related to heart failure. Her idols are Rani Laxmi Bai of Jhansi and Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, the Honorable President of India.
