World Intellectual Property Day, 2025

On the occasion of World Intellectual Property Day on April 26,2025 IP4Kids, a CSR initiative of S.S. Rana & Co. is organizing various exciting competitions for school children under the global theme: “IP and Music- Feel the Beat of IP”. The theme highlights how Intellectual Property plays a crucial role in protecting music, artists and the music industry.

Music has power! Music has value!

But imagine if someone stole your song or melody and claimed it as their own. Wouldn’t you feel sad? That’s why Intellectual Property Rights exist.

COMPETITIONS

Through the following competitions, IP4Kids aims to encourage the students to understand the importance of protecting music, lyrics and creativity through copyright laws and how protecting music leads to more innovation and creativity.

1. Script it! – Essay Writing
2. Comic Strip Making
3. Creative Reel Making

TOPICS

Students are invited to submit their creative entries in respect of the aforesaid competitions on the following topics/prompts:

Topics for Essay Writing Competition
1. How Can Young Musicians Protect Their Songs?
2. How does Music Piracy harm Singers and Musicians?
3. Can Computers Make Music? Who Owns AI Music?
4. Should Traditional and Folk Music Be Free for Everyone?
5. How Do Music Apps Like Spotify and YouTube Help Artists?
Prompts for Comic Strip and Reel Making Competition
1. Many people download songs for free. Is this fair to the people who made the music? How does piracy affect artists?
2. Some artists take parts of old songs to create new ones. When is this allowed, and when is it wrong?
3. Today, computers can compose songs. Who should own these songs— owner of the computer or no one? Why?
4. Sometimes, songs get deleted from videos because of copyright. Is this fair to musicians and video creators?
5. If a student writes a song, how can they make sure no one steals it? What steps should they take?

RULES

  • The competitions are open to school/college students.
  • The content of the essay/reel/comic strips should be based on the given topics/ prompts.
  • The content of the essay/reel/comic strips should not be copied or AI generated.
  • Students can participate in more than one competition. However, only a single entry per competition will be accepted.
  • Piracy/ copying and plagriasim is strictly prohibited. Any entry, if found to be copied from any source shall be disqualified.
  1. Essay Writing Competition
    The essay should be within 1200-1500* word limit. The essay should not exceed word limit.
  2. Comic Strip Making Competition
    i. The comic strip should range between 4-8 panels (pages).
    ii. Hand-drawn, digitally illustrated or mixed media comics are allowed.
  3. Reel Making Competition
    The reel should be of a short duration (between 1-2 minutes) related to the provided prompts. It can be:
    – A short skit
    – A story
    – A dance/ musical performance
    – Educational message

THE PROCESS

1. The mode of submissions for the creative entries will be completely online on IP4kids official email ID (info@ip4kids.in) and the deadline for the same will be April 22, 2025. No other mode of submission shall be entertained.
2. The participants should mention “World Intellectual Property Day, 2025” in the subject line and provide the following details on the first page of their essay/ ending of the reel & comic strip respectively and in the email body:
– Name of the Participant
– Name of the School/ College
– Class/ Year of the Participant
– Postal address of the School/ College
– Contact details of Participant, including phone number and postal address
Note: Failure to provide aforesaid details would result in disqualification of the entry.
3. Entries must be original and in English or Hindi language only.
4. Qualified Experts and Judges appointed by IP4kids and S.S. Rana & Co. will select the best 3 entries in each competition.
5. Following this, the winners will be announced on IP4Kids’s official website (https://www.ip4kids.in/) and social media platforms on or before April 26, 2025.

AWARDS –

1. Exciting gifts will be given to top three winning participants in each competition category along with a Certificate of Merit.
2. All the participants will be conferred with Certificate of Participation.

Disclaimer: The competition intends to provide a platform to the students to share their views and to raise IPR awareness among them. The decision of the Judges shall be final. The organizers of the competition reserve all rights to change the date of announcements of the results and/or the date of announcements and publication of the results. The organizers also reserve the rights to withdraw any or both categories of awards if the entries thus received do not meet the aforesaid criteria. The organizers also reserve all the rights for Publication and reproduction of essay/write ups, due credit in this regard shall be given to the author(s).
