World Environment Day 2016
Jun 7 all-day

“If we do not permit the earth to produce beauty and joy, it will in the end not produce food, either”. – Joseph Wood Krutch

We only have one earth to live in, which, obviously we can’t afford to lose. We humans, in the name of development, are constantly harming our mother nature. The damage so caused was initially only limited to wildlife and other living creatures. When the damage caused by humans increased so much that it started effecting our environment, then we decided to take certain steps to save our environment. These steps involves, shifting towards sustainable development, working towards a ban on CFCs, achieving carbon neutrality, imposing pollution norms on industries, etc.

One such step taken by the United Nations is celebrating ‘World Environment Day’. It is celebrated every year on the 5th of June. This day is celebrated in order to raise awareness about environmental related problems and to motivate people to come forward and take steps for environmental protection. It was started to create global awareness about the condition of the Environment. World Environment Day is organized by United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

It was first celebrated every year by running some effective campaigns by the United Nations General Assembly and United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in the conference on Human Environment which was held from the 5th to 16th of June, 1972. World Environment Day was first celebrated in 1973 with a theme of ‘Only One Earth’. From the year 1974, this day is celebrated globally and the campaign is hosted in different cities.

This year ‘World Environment Day’ was hosted by Angola. The theme for 2016 was ‘Zero Tolerance for Illegal Trade in Wildlife’. This year’s slogan was ‘Go Wild for Life’, and it aimed at creating awareness about the increasing illegal trade in wildlife.

Illegal trade of wildlife is eroding Earth’s precious biodiversity and damaging our natural heritage and pushing wildlife species towards extinction. Other than the effect to the environment, it also results in enhancing corruption, developing black market, and increasing organized crime, etc.

Trading of wildlife plays a significant role in wild life extinction. Many animal species have recently faced extinction from the globe.  In 2011, a subspecies of Javan rhino went extinct in Vietnam, while the last western black rhinos vanished from Cameroon the same year. Great apes have disappeared from Gambia, Burkina Faso, Benin and Togo, and other countries could quickly follow. Lesser-known victims include helmeted hornbills and pangolins, as well as wild orchids and timbers like Rosewood.

On this day, many initiatives were taken by countries and various institutions across the globe. On this day, the Nepal government sends the Gurkha Army out of barracks on the road to clean the environment and for afforestation programmes. Zee News launched ‘My Earth, My Duty’ campaign. This campaign has entered the Limca Book of Records for a novel effort: for planting more than 7,300,000 trees in one single day across 34 cities and 250,000 villages on 25 August 2010. Many arts and drawing competitions on environment day are also organized in schools, to create awareness about the importance of environment and wildlife.

Essay Competition in celebration of Children’s Day
Nov 3 @ 12:00 am – Nov 13 @ 12:00 am

Essay Competition

“Children’s Day is recognized on various days in many places around the world to honor children globally. In India, Children’s Day also known as Bal Divas, is celebrated across the country to increase awareness towards the rights, care and education of children.

It is celebrated on November 14 every year, coinciding with the birth anniversary of the first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru, also called as ‘Chacha Nehru’. Nehru is often cited as saying that children should always be carefully and lovingly nurtured, as they are the future of the nation and the citizens of tomorrow. Bal Diwas was first celebrated in 1964 after the death of Pandit Nehru.

Jawaharlal Nehru aimed “to convert India’s economy into that of a modern state and to fit her into the globalized world.” Nehru understood that India had not been at the forefront of the Industrial Revolution, and hence made an effort to promote higher education, and science and technology in India. Inauguration of the first Indian Institute of Technology at Kharagpur in West Bengal, in 1951 was one of the many initiatives that Prime Minister Nehru took towards the spreading of the culture of innovation in the country.

As per a report published in the Times of India, on November 14, 2014, when asked about the significance of Bal Divas, 11 year old Shaheen said, “Baal to sabke hote hai, isme mithai kyon baatein? (Everyone has hair; why distribute sweets to celebrate the day?). Like many other kids working on the streets, November 14 was just another day for Shaheen and her friends who work as rag pickers on the Sahastradhara trenching ground.

This was true of most kids earning a living who were unaware of the celebrations happening around the country. Busy washing tea cups outside a chai stall on Rajpur Road, Deepu, who lives in a slum close to the Rispana river, drew a blank when asked about Nehru. “Who is he? Is he one of our customers,” he whispered, even as his employer hollered at him to carry on with the dishes.

Thus, in an effort to spread awareness about the importance of education and innovation amongst children, IP4Kids, a CSR Initiative of S.S. Rana & Co., is organizing an Essay Competition on Children’s Day on the theme, Education and Innovation: Towards a better India

First Essay Writing Competition in celebration of
National Sports Day- August 29, 2017

National sports day

We are extremely delighted to receive such an overwhelming response from students of various reputed schools and colleges from all over India who participated in the said essay completion in celebration of National Sports Day. Sport shows intellectual property (IP) in action. Patents encourage technological advances that result in better sporting equipment. Trademarks, brands and designs contribute to the distinct identity of events, teams and their gear. Copyright-related rights generate the revenues needed for broadcasters to invest in the costly undertaking of broadcasting sports events to fans all over the world. IP rights are the basis of licensing and merchandising agreements that earn revenues to support development of the sports industry.

This year, the underlying idea behind choosing a theme related to Intellectual Property while celebrating National Sports Day is to explore how innovation is making our lives healthier, safer, and more comfortable by turning problems into progress. The epoch-making changes that we have undergone in the past was given birth to by the ordinary people who innovate extraordinary things for the better. Their innovations take myriad forms, from the mundane to the seemingly miraculous. Innovation is a human force that knows no limits which turns problems into progress pushing the boundaries of possibility, creating unprecedented new capabilities.

India being a cornucopia of knowledge, capabilities and skill has left no stone unturned in protecting its creativity. In the recent times Indian Judiciary has delivered such judgments in the sphere of Intellectual Property which apart from expanding its scope in India have also been exemplary worldwide.

Last year saw many significant IP developments, for instance the most awaited National IPR Policy, was approved by the Union Cabinet and made public by the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion on May 12, 2016, that laid down the future roadmap for Intellectual Property Protection and Management in India. In terms of IPR awareness, 2016 was laden with one government initiative after the other. The year began with the Start-Up India: Stand-Up India campaign which was launched on January 16, 2016. The campaign is an action plan aimed at promoting bank financing for start-up ventures to boost entrepreneurship and encourage Start-Ups with job creation. The policy hopes to restrict the role of states in the policy domain and to get rid of the license raj and hindrances like land permissions, foreign investment proposal, environmental clearances, etc. To further facilitate a culture of innovation, the Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trademarks released the ‘Scheme for Facilitating Start-ups Intellectual Property Protection’. The major objective of the scheme is to protect and promote Intellectual Property Rights awareness for start-ups and to encourage creativity and innovation amongst them by the appointment of IP facilitators. As an incentive, the start-ups shall not have to pay any kind of fee for seeking services from the facilitators. Instead, the facilitators shall directly be paid by the Central Government through the Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trademarks. The Courts also rendered some noteworthy judgments and observations like in the DU Photocopy case, the Prius Trademarks Infringement case, the green light given to Biocon by the Delhi High Court to continue to market the breast cancer drug, Traztuzumab.

We however look forward to more such milestones by the Indian Judiciary which strikes a balance between creativity and public interest.

Essay Competition in celebration of Children’s Day- 2017
Oct 25 @ 12:00 am – Nov 14 @ 12:00 am

Children Day Essay competition

Sparking the Idea of Innovation: Vigyan Srijnotsav 2019
Dec 4 @ 10:00 am – Dec 6 @ 11:45 pm

Vigyan Srijnotsav

‘There’s a way to do it Better- Find It’ – Thomas Edison

On the cold winter mornings of December 4-6, 2019 all the budding minds in New Delhi flocked to the National Science Centre (NSC), Pragati Maidan, New Delhi for the Vigyan Srijnotsav, 2019. It aimed to foster a passion and aptitude for science and technology and provide a unique platform to avant-garde and creative Innovators. There were around forty-five stalls at the fair showcasing their fantastic innovations. The festival was a celebration of science and innovation with first-hand information from the creators themselves. It was about participation, not competition. This was a place to meet and interact with likeminded innovators from different walks of life.
S.S. Rana & Co. marked its presence, for the fifth time, at the festival, through its CSR Initiative, IP4KIDS, a sensitization program to spread awareness about Intellectual Property Rights among the younger generation. The idea was to ignite a spark in the young minds about Intellectual Property Rights, so that they learn how to protect their inventions, creativity and be incentivized for their contribution to the human race. The initiative aims to stimulate in the young minds of children a culture of innovation, and to inculcate in them a respect for the fruits of one’s labor, as we firmly believe that when one creates IP, he respects IP, as he expects others to respect his IP as well. Building respect for IP means helping create an environment in which IP can fulfill its role to stimulate innovation and creation. It also means fostering an environment in which the system of protection provides equitable benefits for both innovators and users of IP.
With a team of volunteers, the IP4Kids welcomed the curious minds to educate them and give a perception about Intellectual Property. With a number of engaging activities like IP Quiz, Logo Quiz, Idea Contest, One on One interaction, the event gave an opportunity to the younger generation to openly discuss and know about Intellectual Property Law. There were also mini parallel events organized by the National Science Centre such as innovation workshops, Make it at Science Centre, On the spot Design, Family Science Quiz, etc.
The turnout was better than last year and feedback showed that all, especially the kids enjoyed the interactive session with the IP4KIDS team. The volunteers from the Firm also delivered a a presentation on ‘Importance of Intellectual Property’ during a special session titled ‘Safeguarding Ideas’ organized by NSC. The session was very interactive as the participants were very inquisitive about the Intellectual Property Rights.
Overall the response was positive. The fruitful event concluded with the Firm being awarded a memento for participating in the fest and spreading awareness about Intellectual Property Rights among the younger generation.

ESSAY COMPETITION IN CELEBRATION OF REPUBLIC DAY
Dec 4 2019 @ 10:15 am – Jan 17 2020 @ 11:59 pm

Upload Here

republicday-2020
The Republic Day of India celebrated as the day on which we the people of India gave to ourselves the Constitution and recognized ourselves as republic is one of the most prominent national occasions. It is celebrated on January 26th, the day on which, in the year 1950, after 3 years of rigorous toil and brainstorming by the leaders of our nation, the Indian Constitution was enacted.

Republic Day is notably one of the most defining events in Indian polity and governance. The Constitution of India not only lays down the fundamental rights afforded by an Indian citizen but also how the Judiciary, the Executive and the Legislature is supposed to function. In a way, the Republic Day, is the day we gave to ourselves a rule book which prescribes rules that makes the whole nation function in an organized, uniform and civil manner.

We celebrate Republic Day to commemorate the efforts of the framers of the Indian Constitution and to remember that the Indian Government and Administration is a public matter and not a private affair; as the famous saying goes it is ‘for the people, by the people and of the people’.

Thus, in an effort to spread awareness about the importance the Indian Constitution and the Rights, Duties and Functional Procedures that it entails, IP4Kids, a CSR initiative of S.S. Rana & Co., is organizing an Essay Competition on the 70th Republic Day.

Children’s Day – November 14, 2020

“I want a better future.

I want to save my future.

I want to save our future.

I want to save the future of all the children and all people of future generations.”

– Ridhima Pandey 11-year-old Indian Environmental Activist[1]

“Children’s Day is recognized on various days in many places around the world to honor children globally. In India, Children’s Day also known as Bal Divas, is celebrated across the country to increase awareness towards the rights, care, and education of children.

We are in an era wherein children across the globe are fighting for environment and ‘natural’ and ‘organic’ things are in vogue. In December 2019, the world was given a green jolt by 16-year-old Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg by her speech at the UN Climate Action Summit in New York wherein she pleaded and warned the world about climate change. Immediately after this she along with 15 other youth activists including Ridhima Pandey from India filed an official complaint to the United Nations Committee protesting lack of global government action on the climate crisis.
