Innovator Profile
Brahadees noticed that the breeze from the commercial fans would not reach the corners of the room which made it uncomfortable and the breeze which usually repels mosquitoes would not be effective and hence they would get bitten. He says that the air conditioners are expensive for the middle class person and so he wanted to make a machine which was in between the air conditioner and the fan and would be cost effective.
Brahadees observed that in the case of the air conditioner, only about 10% of the cooling was being used by us and the rest was being absorbed by the other articles in the room. It is also expensive in terms of cost of energy consumption. And so he made the Healthy Air Machine which is portable so that in the morning you could keep it around the living room and at night in your bedroom. It can be moved around anywhere in the house which is the advantage.
His idol is Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam. He recalls that when he was in the 4th standard, Dr. Kalam had visited the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research. But only the top ranking students were allowed to him and since Brahadees ranked 10th he missed out on the opportunity. So this time he wanted to ensure that he met Dr. Kalam personally and also wanted to show him his project. This was how he was inspired to do something in science.
Brahadees enjoys reading Chetan Bhagat novels as he likes his style of writing and says that he can relate to it. He plays cricket and hockey and likes watching science fiction movies in his leisure. Physics, math and chemistry are his favourite subjects.
When his friends heard the good news about his idea being selected for IGNITE, they congratulated him and asked for a treat. They did not know much about IGNITE so Brahadees told them and some of them got inspired and said that they would also start thinking about ideas and would like to participate next year.
When he thought of this idea, his school was supportive of him but could not provide him with the exact materials he required. So his father went out of his way and got all the material for him. He says his father is very supportive and his mother encourages him and wants him to get admission into a good college.
Brahadees says that it was not possible for the school to allow him to work on his projects daily as he had to also follow the regular curriculum. So he asked for permission to use the physics lab on Sundays to work on his project. They were supportive of him and gave him permission, which was a privilege. Since he did not know the exact types of pipes etc., which he needed to use for his project, he took the help of the electricians and plumbers of his school.
Brahadees aspires to become an IAS Officer one day and wants to invent something greater than this innovation.
