Generally shoulder arm slings are used to provide support to a fractured hand. Using this for a long time sometimes give discomfort to the neck/ shoulder region. Adi’s idea is to have a waist worn appendage, which can provide support to a fractured hand instead of the sling. The fractured arm would be rested comfortably on the appendage and kept in position by straps.
The idea was born earlier this year, when Adisuffered a fracture on his hand. He had to wear a cast and a sling to support his fractured arm. “Wearing the sling for about 16 hours a day along with all the weight of the cast on my left shoulder caused a lot of pain on my shoulder. This is when I thought of putting an appendage around the waist, where it is comfortable and painless,” says the 10-year-old.
He wants to become a scientist like his idols Dr APJ Abdul Kalam and Albert Einstein. He is a part of his school’s soccer team and likes to read books on science and nature. The latest hobby that he has picked up is to learn photography.
“The recognition I received for my innovation has encouraged me to think outside the box. I will work towards finding more creative solutions to everyday problems,” says Adi, whose father is a software-engineer and mother a homemaker. He has a younger sister.
